Once Dead, Twice Shy : Book Review

Summary : My name is Madison Avery, and I'm here to tell you that there's more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I'm there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.

Madison's prom was killer—literally. For some reason she's been targeted by a dark reaper—yeah, that kind of reaper—intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away.

Now she's stuck on Earth—dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn't know why the dark reaper is after her, but she's not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.

With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison's ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.

Well, if she believed in that stuff.

-GOODREADS

My Opinion : Since I'd already read the prequel to this series, it was easier to understand, and that's why I'm telling you to read the prequel before reading this book. Here's where you can find the sequel; Prequel of Madison Avery Trilogy, just read the story that Kim Harrison wrote.

The writing was really fun, with sarcastic humor. I've already tried reading another series, well, the first book to another series, of this author. Here it is; Dead Witch Walking. It was hard to get into, so I didn't ready it further 60 pages; I'm ashamed of myself, but I couldn't get in the story. Maybe I'll try it again another time.

I was a bit reluctant to read the book, since of her other novel. But I tried it even though I had prejudices. And I was wrong; this author clearly has talent. That's why the sequel of the series is in my To-Read List (TRL).

Madison Avery is clearly a geek trying to cover her geeky side so she could be popular; obviously. I don't know why, but I can't decide who I want her to date; Joshua or Barnabas? *Sigh* Oh well, maybe I'll decide in the next book. Josh was great, and I forgave him for calling Madison a bitch; he hadn't known her well. Barnabas was too cold and distant, in my opinion; he should have been more nice to Madison.

The cover was... cool and weird at the same the same time. But it's definitely cute.

As I said before, I'll probably read the sequel to this series.

4/5 stars.
